Art Gallery & Consignment Management System
An MS Access front end synced to a SQL Server backend for an art gallery — inventory, consignment, and sales order management.
An art gallery needed to track inventory, consignment arrangements, and sales across multiple artists and staff members, with data that stayed consistent no matter who was working in the system at the time. A pure desktop database wasn't going to cut it once more than one person needed reliable, up-to-date numbers at once.
We built an MS Access front end backed by a Microsoft SQL Server database, with data synchronization running every 30 minutes to keep everyone looking at consistent figures. The system catalogs artworks with full detail (title, artist, medium, dimensions, price, and images), manages sales orders and consignment orders with contract terms and expiration alerts, and handles the return-item workflow with the inventory and financial adjustments that come with it.
On top of the day-to-day inventory and order management, the system generates sales invoices and receipts automatically and produces sales, consignment, and inventory reports the gallery uses to track performance across artists and pieces. Moving from a single-user desktop file to an Access/SQL Server pairing gave the gallery both the familiar Access interface staff already knew and the multi-user reliability a growing operation actually needed.
